A mandatory deductible of €385 applies to basic insurance in 2023. The government has determined this. Do you incur healthcare costs that are covered by basic insurance? Then you have to pay the first € 385 yourself. In addition, the basic insurance reimburses healthcare costs.

Voluntary deductible

You can choose to increase your deductible in exchange for a lower premium. This is the voluntary deductible. You can increase the deductible by €500. The total deductible (mandatory + voluntary) is therefore a maximum of € 885.

When does the deductible apply?

The deductible applies to almost all care covered by basic insurance. These include:

Costs of medicines;
Specialist medical care;
Hospital admission;
Psychological care (GGZ);
Speech therapy;
Hearing aids.

But there are exceptions

Care costs for children up to the age of 18;
A visit to the GP, with the exception of blood and laboratory tests carried out outside the practice;
Care programs and chain care, with the exception of medicines and laboratory research;
Obstetric care and delivery, with the exception of the NIPT test, medicines, laboratory tests, patient transport and maternity care;
Maternity care, please note: you do pay a personal contribution;
Resources that you have on loan;
Nursing and care at home (district nursing);
Travel costs and follow-up checks for a kidney or liver donor;
All care that is reimbursed by your supplementary insurance.

In these cases, the healthcare costs are fully reimbursed. You then do not have to pay a deductible.
